SUMMARY:School Sign Up - STEAM Summit
DESCRIPTION:School Sign Up\n\nSchool Registration Deadline: Friday\, October 21\n\n\n\nSTEAM Summit Mission and Overview:\n\nThe STEAM Summit encourages over 2\,000 middle and high school students to pursue science\, technology\, engineering\, art\, and math careers by connecting them to business and higher educational institutions which offer STEAM courses in a highly interactive\, hands-on format.\n\n\n\nThe future success of Southeast Minnesota's (SEMN) economy depends on a well-prepared pipeline of students with the education and skills needed to keep the SEMN region's business and industry competitive. This summit brings together business\, higher education\, local government and our community to motivate and prepare students for an increasingly competitive global marketplace.\n\n\n\nReal Impact:\n\nAs a direct result of of STEAM Summit\, our student surveys found of those who attended: 80% of the students would now consider a STEAM career\, 60% want to further explore a STEAM career\, 45% want to worker harder in their STEAM courses\, and 25% plan to take harder STEAM classes.\n\n\n\nSTEAM Summit School Timeline\n\nTuesday\, November 15\, 9:30am to 2:15pm \n\n\n	9:20am | 1st Group Arrives\n\n	\n *Send one teacher into the building to "check in" before allowing students off of the bus. \n	\n	\n	9:30am - 11:30am | 1st Group of Students\n	11:30am 12:00pm | BREAK\n	11:50am | 2nd Group Arrives\n	\n *Send one teacher into the building to "check in" before allowing students off of the bus\n	\n	\n	12:00pm - 2:00pm | 2nd Group of Students\n\nStudent Responsibility\n\n\n	Come ready to learn and engage with the exhibitors\n	Ask questions about careers and the education needed for careers\n	Dress appropriately for the weather\, there will be exhibits outside\n	Make timely\, orderly transitions between zones\n\nTeacher Responsibility\n\n\n	Schedule school bussing (see more details below)\n	Ensure their students know the purpose of the STEAM Summit and their responsibilities\n	Ensure their students make timely\, orderly transitions between zones\n	Teachers are encouraged to visit exhibits along with the students to help students engage\n	Ensure the students have sufficient chaperones traveling with your group\n	STEAM Summit staff and volunteers are not responsible for student behavior or engagement\, however\, volunteers in green shirts will be present to provide directions\, information\, etc. \n	Designate a meeting location for your group to gather at the end of the event and communicate it to students (avoid the entrances to reduce congestion)\n\n\nFormat\n\nThere are a total of 6 zones your students will transition through. Your class will be given the order in which to visit the zones upon arrival.\n\n\n\nWhen it is time to move to a different group\, we will give a loud signal. Students\, chaperones\, and their teachers should quickly move to their next zone. Quick transitions are very important so the students can experience as much as possible in the allotted time. Students will likely not be able to visit each exhibit. Help them scan the opportunities and engage as they wish. Encourage them to visit at least 5 exhibits (avg. 3 minutes or less) in each zone. \n\n \n\nRochester Public School District Bussing\n\nSchools in the Rochester Public School District please coordinate your buses through First Student as you normally would and indicate to First Student that the Chamber should be invoiced for the buses. Through grant funding\, the Chamber will cover the bussing costs for Rochester Public Schools. \n\n\n\nBussing for Schools Outside of Rochester Public School District\n\nSchools outside of the Rochester Public School District are responsible for coordinating and covering their bussing. \n\n\n\nQuestions\n\nFor questions please contact Kaylie McGregor\, Workforce Development and Education Coordinator at kmcgregor@rochestermnchamber.com or call 507-424-5678.
