Person centered Approach workshop: Education and Employment Working Together
The SMDEN meeting in February will discuss the person-centered approach to Education & Employment—the idea of making the person the focus rather than the disability—from the viewpoint of the Self-Advocacy Movement. The Self-Advocacy Movement is about empowering individuals to speak up for themselves. Our facilitator, Wilbur Neushwander-Frink, is a Community Organizer for Self-Advocates Minnesota Southwest and Regional Coordinator for the Arc of Minnesota Southwest. She has worked as an ally in the Minnesota Self-Advocacy Movement for 24 years. This meeting will feature interactive exercise and discussions that will help you understand what a person really wants in their life and how to help set them up for employment success. We will discuss the idea of “power relationships” and what that means in understanding person-centeredness.
