The City of Rochester, Minnesota (pop. 115,000+) Park and Recreation Department provides a variety of leisure time opportunities for people to enjoy and manages more than 4100 acres of park land including over 100 individual parks and 85 miles of paved trails. Graham Arena maintains indoor ice playing surfaces for 10 months each year and the Recreation maintains indoor ice playing surfaces year-round.

Nature of Work
This part-time position is the first point of contact for people entering the Park and Recreation Department and is responsible for performing routine office support functions that help ensure departmental services are provided in a friendly, effective and efficient manner.
 
Work Schedule
This is a year-round position that will be scheduled for up to 13.5 hours per week and the person hired must be able to commit to a set schedule.

Pay Rate
$14.00 to $17.00 per hour, depending on qualifications.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The work below is representative of the scope of work performed within this job classification. Individual job duties will vary based on work assignment.
 

  • Perform general office duties such as filing, copying, preparing mail, etc.
  • Perform general receptionist duties by assisting customers and answering phones
  • Update various departmental information
  • Assist with data entry working with Elements software and involving tree inventory updates
  • Perform other duties as assigned or necessary

 


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must:

  • Possess a High School diploma or the equivalent (GED)
  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office 365 software, including Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Have the ability to deal professionally and tactfully with the public
Desirable Qualifications
  • Experience working in a similar environment 
  • Experience performing clerical duties

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of: office practices and procedures and Microsoft Office programs.

Skill in: providing excellent customer service; the use of personal computers and office machines and equipment; and organization and time management 

Ability to: deal tactfully with the general public in person and on the phone; understand and carry out oral and written assignments; work self-directed; follow oral and written instructions to learn assigned tasks, and to adhere to prescribed procedures; maintain regular and reliable attendance.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CRITERIA
