The City of Rochester, Minnesota (pop. 115,000+) Park and Recreation Department provides a variety of leisure time opportunities for people to enjoy and manages more than 3500 acres of park land including over 100 individual parks and 85 miles of paved trails.

Pipsqueaks, Rochester's INDOOR play zone, is designed for children kindergarten-age and younger to play under parental/guardian supervision. A community partnership between the Rochester Park & Recreation Department and the United Way of Olmsted County Inc., Pipsqueaks offers young children a safe, clean play space to burn off energy during the long winter months. In addition, parents and their kids can share in activities, meet with existing playgroups and make new friends. 


Nature of Work
This is a part-time seasonal/temporary position that oversees patron activities at the Pipsqueaks indoor play zone to ensure that the facility is clean, orderly, properly maintained and safe. This position must be able to interact with the public in a professional, courteous, and helpful manner.

WORK SCHEDULE:
This position will be scheduled varied hours, as needed, including weekends, from Mid-November through early May.

HOURS OF OPERATION:
Monday through Saturday from 9:30 am to 1:00 pm
Birthday Blocks:
Monday through Saturday from 2 - 5:00 pm and 5 - 8:00 pm
Sunday from 12 - 3:00 pm and 3 - 6:00 pm

PAY RATE: $13.00 - $16.00 per hour, depending on qualifications

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The work below is representative of the scope of work performed within this job classification. Individual job duties will vary based on work assignment.
 

  • Open/close facility 
  • Greet and check in patrons 
  • Securely maintain money box – assure correct amount of money available for each day 
  • Prepare deposit bag to deposit the money collected from each day's transactions 
  • Take in daily entry fee from patrons 
  • Fill out daily summary sheets
  • Provide general supervision of play area
  • Properly fill out injury paperwork, if necessary
  • Clean/pickup in play area and bathrooms as needed during open times and at end of shift
  • Restock supplies
  • Answer questions and assist patrons during open times
  • Clean/pickup play area and bathrooms at end of day
  • Close/lock facility
     

 


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must:

  • Be at least 16 years old
  • Have the ability to deal professionally and tactfully with the public

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of: children's games and activities.

Skill in: providing excellent customer service; and working with children.

Ability to: deal tactfully with the general public in person and on the phone; and understand and carry out oral and written assignments

Work is primarily done while standing, with a combination of bending, stooping, kneeling, pulling, pushing, and reaching also necessary.
