Desirable Qualifications:
Experience in the operation of light to medium mowing equipment; experience in grounds keeping and/or building maintenance; pursuing education in an engineering or construction related field of study; pursuing education in natural environment studies; or related Public Works experience is desirable.
Regular and reliable attendance is a necessary component of job/position. Individuals required to use County vehicles and equipment must have a valid driver’s license and be free of any major traffic violations for the last three (3) years.
Individuals will be required to complete a pre-employment drug test
Nature of Work
Under general supervision, assists with maintenance, operating equipment, cleaning buildings and performing minor building repairs. Operation of the equipment involves the manipulation of the controls and attachments and includes routine care and maintenance of the equipment in the field. Under general supervision, assists with surveying, construction inspection, traffic control, and traffic operation needs. Performs other duties as assigned.
Examples of Work- General maintenance
- Operates riding and push mowers, weed trimmer, pickup truck
- Operates various hand tools
- Answers questions from the public and enforces regulations
- Cleans buildings, floors, bathrooms, sinks, etc.
- Maintains buildings, signs and fences on property, performing minor interior and exterior repair
- Maintains equipment and vehicles such as tractors, mowers, trucks, etc., changing oil, lubricating and making minor adjustments
- Performs minor mathematical calculations; completes minor project paperwork and documentation
- Operates survey equipment and construction staking
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Knowledge of the operating characteristics of assigned equipment
- Knowledge of the work hazards and applicable safety precautions associated with assigned equipment and operations
- Knowledge of applicable traffic laws, ordinances and regulations involved in the operation of assigned equipment
- Knowledge of the maintenance requirements of assigned equipment
- Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions
- Ability to communicate with the public
- Ability to make minor operating adjustments and to recognize operating deficiencies in assigned equipment
