ABC6News, the Hubbard Broadcasting ABC affiliate in Rochester-Austin, Minnesota, and Mason City, Iowa, DMA has an exciting, challenging newsroom management opportunity. If so, we have a job that may be perfect for you. We are looking for a person who can not only run our daily news operations but also bring our news product to the next level. You will be instrumental in shaping the day's newscasts and keeping the public informed up to the minute through our website and social media platforms. You will be in charge of keeping the news crews on task, and on deadline. You also will have a key role in writing and posting stories online and on social media. Job Responsibilities
  • Work closely with the News Director, Executive Producer, and other news team members to build and develop a consistent advance planning system for news coverage and special events.
  • Constantly generate daily story ideas and plan for the future.
  • Lead daily meetings with producers and reporters.
  • Maintain strong local contacts.
  • Assist producers and reporters with story calls, setups, and follow-through.
  • Coordinate breaking news coverage, crews, and LiveU units.
  • Ability to oversee schedules/gear/vehicles.
  • Work on special projects as assigned.
  • Provide newsroom leadership.
  • May be required to work overtime, holidays, and weekends.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate clearly, calmly, and respectfully with teammates of various personalities and others during high-pressure, high-stress situations.
  • College Degree in Communications with an emphasis in Journalism preferred.
  • Two years of TV/digital newsroom experience is a plus.
  • Must be extremely well organized and detail-oriented.
  • Advanced ability in critical thinking and judgment.
  • Must be able to make good decisions quickly; able to articulate and communicate information and direction to news staff and other station employees.
  • Computer and Social Media skills are a must.
  • Solid exposure to and understanding of ethics of Journalism.
  • Producer experience is a plus.
  • Commitment, determination, and a strong sense of teamwork.
