19th annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. We Have a Dream Breakfast by the Rochester Chamber of Commerce Foundation and the Rochester Branch of the NAACP.
Keynote speaker: Linda Keene, CEO of the Girl Scouts of Minnesota & Wisconsin River Valleys.
Ms. Keene came to River Valleys after a distinguished career in the consumer packaged goods, financial services, and publishing industries and nearly 14 years as a corporate board director. She has served as Executive Vice President of Marketing for Scholastic Inc., the global children’s media company and held senior-level marketing positions with American Express, Pillsbury, and Gillette. She also spent several years as a consultant with The Boston Consulting Group. Ms. Keene has served as a director on corporate various boards, which include Visa USA (San Francisco, CA), Huffy Corporation (Dayton, OH), and Scholastic Corporation (New York, NY).
Ms. Keene holds an MBA from Harvard University Graduate School of Business Administration and a BA from Boston University School of Management, from which she received the Distinguished Alumni Award in May 1999. She also received her professional coaching certification from The Hudson Institute of Santa Barbara in May 2002 and the Certificate of Director Education from the National Association of Corporate Directors Institute in February 2006. Her professional associations include membership in the Minnesota Women’s Economic Roundtable and the National Black MBA Association.
Ms. Keene is a native of New York City and currently resides in the Twin Cities.
This event will also include an original spoken word piece by Poet Danny Solis.
Danny Solis
Danny Solis has been teaching and performing poetry for 25 years. Poetry has taken him to places all over the world, including England, Scotland, France and Nepal. He has won multiple Poetry Slam Championships including, national and international titles. Over the years Solis has worked with Advanced Placement and Honors students, gang members and incarcerated populations, teachers and professional poets, helping individuals, find their voice and tell their story. Solis has helped organize and curate many community art and poetry events including the National Poetry Slam 2005, the largest poetry event in the world.
Danny Solis now lives in Rochester Minnesota where he is a free-lance poet, educator, event organizer and raconteur.
His most important work however is raising his son Teagan, who is 6 years old.
