Minimum Qualifications of Education and Experience

Expected starting salary is $25.65 to $34.25.  Full salary range is $25.65 to $42.85.   


Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in business, administrative assistant or related field and one (1) year of experience in a similar position as listed in the work functions.

OR

High School graduate, G.E.D., or foreign education equivalent to a U.S. High School Diploma and three (3) years of experience in similar position as listed in the work functions.

OR

Combination of education and experience equivalent to three (3) years of experience in a similar position as listed in the work functions.

Regular and reliable attendance is a necessary component of job/position.  Individuals required to use County vehicles and equipment must have a valid driver’s license and be free of any major traffic violations for the last three (3) years.

Required Special Qualifications:

Must complete Election Administrator certification and all additional training required by the Office of the Secretary of State.

Nature of Work

Under supervision, assists with the training of election judges who work in the polling places on Election Day and performs setup and maintenance of elections equipment. Serves in a leadership/mentor role to provisional elections staff supporting absentee voting. Provides customer service to the public, vendors, Olmsted County departments, partner agencies and the media. Greets, assists and directs customers and performs technical clerical duties.

Examples of Work

  • Maintains and updates key election and voter registration systems, resolves issues, verifies accuracy of changes and updates. Processes applications and registrations within the Statewide Voter Registration System.
  • Administers the absentee voting process including implementing ballot requirements, mailing requirements and supporting database updates. 
  • Coordinates health care facility voting and candidate filing.
  • Performs complex administrative support including preparing, editing and proofreading. Prepares, reviews and edits reports, documentation, procedure manuals and other correspondence. Utilizes multiple web-based systems for elections administration. 
  • Trains and mentors elections staff, election judges, and partner agencies and assists with the development of training materials. Assists with oversight of provisional election staff in the absence of the manager.
  • Coordinates the maintenance and testing of election equipment, tracks inventory and orders supplies.
  • Enters election district and precinct boundary updates in the statewide voter registration system, interprets GIS mapping to update address changes and performs redistricting updates received during each census cycle.
  • Interprets state statutes and guidelines and applies knowledge to work knowledge and communication including data retention and policies.
  • Provides backup support for other functions in the department.
  • Performs related work as required.
