John Adam's Choices Career Day Mission and Overview:
Choices Day is a half day field trip put on in partnership with the Rochester Public Schools and the Rochester Chamber of Commerce Foundation to give students the opportunity to observe, interact, and get hands on experience in an industry of their choice. Emphasis will be placed on both the hard and soft skills needed to be successful and how those skills relate back to academic success.
 
Through Choices Day, businesses will have the opportunity to showcase their industry and engage students in their workforce development model while building relationships with our youth. As these students mature into the workforce, they will become interns, employees, and leaders in these very same organizations.

How can a business get involved?
Businesses can host students in groups of 10 middle school students from John Adam’s accompanied by volunteer(s) and educator(s).  Businesses will host the students and design a half experience for them that might include:

• Tours
• Discussions about the various jobs in the industry, education required, and skills needed
• Interactive experiences to give students hands on experience

Sample Itinerary/Agenda

Tuesday, May 3, 9:30am - 1:30pm
Students Arrive via Bus - 9:30am
Welcome by Host - 9:35am
Tour of the Facility - 9:45am to 11:00am
Lunch - 11:00am to 11:30am (students will pack their own lunches)
Interactive Experience - 11:30am-12:30pm
Discussion - 12:30pm to 1:15pm

• Industry standards
• Education/training needed for internships, entry level jobs, and higher up jobs
• Benefits offered for scholarships, tuition reimbursement, etc.
• Q&A time

Depart on Buses - 1:30pm
