Minimum Qualifications of Education and Experience
Expected starting salary is $23.06 to $30.79. Full salary range is $23.06 to $38.52.
Associate’s degree from an accredited college in accounting or closely related field.
OR
A combination of education and experience equivalent to two (2) years of experience in a similar position as listed in the work functions.
Regular and reliable attendance is a necessary component of job/position. Individuals required to use County vehicles and equipment must have a valid driver's license and be free of any major traffic violations for the last three (3) years.
Nature of Work
Under supervision, codes, posts, records, and reconciles financial records and accounts. Processes accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash receipting, and/or treasury related transactions within interfaced automated systems with general ledger. May also determine fees for services received from Human Services Department. Interviews customer, reviews submitted financial information and determines customer payment amount according to the type of service used and applicable fee schedule. Assists with periodic financial and statistical reporting and budgeting. Identifies process improvements, collaborates with others, and provides excellent customer service. Mentors, trains, and assists other staff. Is a resource in resolving accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash receipting issues. Supports a diverse, respectful, and inclusive workplace.
Examples of Work
- Performs accounts payable and/or accounts receivable tasks, cash receipting, journal entries and/or duties related to these functions; responds to customer or vendor inquiry and corrects problems.
- Provides excellent customer service to both internal and external customers.
- Notifies customer within guidelines, of claim placement at the State of Minnesota Department of Revenue.
- Enters claim information into collection agency system and State of Minnesota Department of Revenue system in a timely manner.
- Negotiates individual payment plans.
- Enters account specific data into the accounts receivable system, reviews invoices to determine payment status.
- Responds to customer inquiry and creates collections correspondence.
- Explains fees to clients, coordinates repayment plans after customer assessment, and if the customer has more questions, they are redirected to the eligibility worker.
- Processes and/or audits complex accounts payables, receivables, and/or cash receipting transactions.
- Maintains and reconciles accounting records and accounts.
- Performs cash handling and bank related tasks. May involve processing volumes of payments.
- Maintains records such as to accounting transactions such as scanning documents, distributing mail and maintaining files.
- Assists in preparing financial reports.
- Verifies completeness, accuracy, and appropriateness of data, and resolves issues.
- Assists other staff with day-to-day accounting related work.
- Works with interfaced automated systems with general ledger and other systems.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
