Content Desk Manager

ABC6 News is seeking a passionate, energized, and highly skilled Content Desk Manager to help lead our daily news operations and elevate our coverage across all platforms. This role blends the responsibilities of a traditional assignment desk manager, digital content editor, and newsroom leader. Job Duties:
Newsroom Leadership & Daily Operations
- Work closely with the News Director, Executive Producer, and newsroom teams to develop a consistent and strategic coverage plan for daily news and special projects.
- Lead daily editorial meetings with producers and reporters to shape coverage and set priorities.
- Coordinate and manage daily crew assignments, schedules, vehicles, and gear.
- Provide leadership, guidance, and support to reporters, producers, and content staff.
- Maintain strong community contacts and source networks.
- Actively monitor police scanners, social media, websites, public safety channels, emails, and other sources for breaking news, significant events, and compelling local stories.
- Stay well-informed on local, national, and global developments, with strong understanding of government, legal processes, and public policy.
- Generate unique, enterprise story ideas and manage long-term planning.
- Assist producers and reporters with story research, calls, source tracking, setups, and follow-ups.
- Make fast, accurate decisions during breaking news.
- Alert newsroom staff, assign field crews, deploy LiveU units, and coordinate multiple live broadcasts.
- Confirm information quickly and responsibly, prioritizing accuracy over speed while still being aggressive with coverage.
- Write and publish news stories to the website and social platforms using AP wires, live video, social media content, and newsroom inputs.
- Utilize a variety of technologies for video capture, editing, file transfers, live cameras, remote interviews, and communication tools.
- Ensure content is accurate, up-to-date, and engaging across all digital platforms.
- Maintain constant communication throughout the day regarding story progress, changes, crew assignments, and breaking developments.
- Consult with newsroom leadership on challenging editorial decisions.
- Adapt quickly to additional tasks or shifting priorities as needed.
- Work on assigned special projects and long-term investigative or enterprise initiatives.
- Complete additional duties as assigned to support the goals of the newsroom.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate clearly, calmly, and respectfully with teammates of various personalities and others during high-pressure, high-stress situations.
- A college degree in Communications with an emphasis in Journalism is preferred.
- Two years of TV/digital newsroom experience is a plus.
- Must be extremely well organized and detail-oriented.
- Advanced ability in critical thinking and judgment.
- Must be able to make good decisions quickly; able to articulate and communicate information and direction to news staff and other station employees.
- Computer and Social Media skills are a must.
- Solid exposure to and understanding of the ethics of Journalism.
- Producer experience is a plus.
- Commitment, determination, and a strong sense of teamwork.
When extending an offer, the company considers a variety of factors such as (but not limited to) the candidate's work experience, education/training & key skills as well as internal peer equity and other market and business considerations. The annual base salary range for this position is $55,000 to $62,500.
