News Release: Meyer Borgman Johnson (MBJ) The Next Chapter of Rochester Leadership
We are excited to announce Co-Leadership of our Rochester office with the promotion of Brett Herring to Office Leader, joining Alan Hiniker, Principal and Office leader, in leading our team.
Brett and Al will advance a dynamic, innovative, and supportive environment for our growing Rochester team, collaborating on recruiting, technical mentorship, business development, and project leadership. This transition marks an exciting step in the continued engagement with the greater Rochester community and in building the next generation of leadership for our office.
Brett has contributed regularly to the Rochester team since joining MBJ. In 2024, Brett and his family relocated to Rochester, and he immediately immersed himself in the community both personally and professionally, jumping in with both feet!
Professionally, Brett has joined the Rochester Chamber of Commerce and Rochester Area Builders, in addition to engaging with clients and project stakeholders throughout the community.
Brett has provided project leadership on a number of local and regional projects including numerous medical renovation projects and significant work on several Rochester subway tunnels. He has also served as the Project Manager for the Minnesota Masterpiece Hall in Winona, MN, and as the Lead Engineer for Washington County’s new mass timber Central Service Center in Woodbury, MN.
Brett’s strong communications skills and approachable demeanor make him an effective collaborator and his leadership will be instrumental in shaping the future of MBJ’s Rochester office.
Al is excited to share leadership of MBJ’s Rochester office with Brett, carrying forward a strong legacy of structural engineering in the community. In 2025, he celebrates a decade of leadership at MBJ’s Rochester office and over 40 years of experience in the region. With deep-rooted connections in the community, Al has an immense portfolio of work in the Rochester area, as well as projects across southeastern Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Iowa.
With a focus on building relationships, mentorship in his partnership with Brett, and community involvement through his memberships with the Rochester Area Chamber of Commerce and Rochester Area Builders, Al remains dedicated to fostering growth and collaboration.
“I’m thrilled to have Brett join me in leading our Rochester office. We are building something special here with a very talented team, and I look forward to what we will accomplish together in the years ahead.” – Al Hiniker
