A Day in the Life at Custom Alarm:
- Reports to: Fire Alarm Project Manager
- Hours: Full-Time/Hourly
- Location: Southeast Minnesota
- Company Size: 70 employees
- Pay Range: $25.00-$35.00 (starting wage is based on a number of considerations including; education, certifications, related experience, etc.)
The Main Responsibilities
Fire Alarm Installation Technicians take day-to-day direction from their Project Manager. Apply electrical and electronic theory and related job knowledge to install, test, repair and modify electronic equipment. Conduct day-to-day interactions with customers and coworkers in a manner that exemplifies and supports the Core Values of Custom Alarm.
• Install, test, and inspect fire alarm systems to meet code; provide customer training.
• Assist customers with technical questions on system operation.
• Promote system upgrades and enhancements.
• Complete all installation documentation, diagrams, and timecards accurately and promptly.
• Maintain assigned tools, inventory, and any company vehicle in good condition.
• Participate in the rotating on-call schedule for after-hours service.
• Follow all safety regulations and recommend improvements as needed.
• Attend required training and maintain all necessary certifications and licenses.
• Support service and installation teams as needed.
REQUIREMENTS:
What We Look For in a Candidate:
Education
- High School Diploma or GED
Required Education, Experience, and Certifications:
- Minimum of two years relatable experience
- Power Limited Technician License (PLT)
- NICET Level I
Beneficial Education and Certifications (not required for consideration)
- Electronics Degree or equivalent low-voltage experience
- NICET Level II and III
Additional Skills and Abilities
- Positive attitude with a desire to learn and grow.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to use tools and equipment.
- Clear written, verbal, and listening communication skills.
- Excellent customer service for both internal and external customers.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Proficient with computers and applications (Microsoft, PDF tools, Bluebeam, AutoCAD).
- Strong work ethic and planning skills to complete projects on time.
Physical Demands
- The physical demands described must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Frequent standing and walking; extended sitting when traveling.
- Stooping, kneeling, crawling, and climbing ladders/stairs required.
- Regular work at heights up to 25 ft; occasional work up to 50 ft.
- Lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling items such as ladders, wire spools, and boxes (typically up to 50 lbs; occasionally 50–100 lbs)
- Frequent overhead reaching and repetitive hand, wrist, and finger motions.
- Strong audio, visual, verbal abilities and accurate color vision for wiring identification.
- Daily driving of a company vehicle.
- Operation of lifts (genie/motorized) and power tools such as drills, saws, and meters.
Working Conditions
- Requires working in all environmental conditions (both indoors and outdoors) with some exposure to dust, insulation, noise, and heat or cold (MN weather)
- After hours work, out-of-town trips, or overnights are sometimes necessary
Other Requirements
- Regular, reliable attendance.
- Valid driver’s license with an insurable driving record.
- Employment contingent on passing a background check and drug test.
