Minimum Qualifications of Education and Experience
Expected starting salary is $23.06 to $30.79. Full salary range is $23.06 to $38.52.
Associate's degree from an accredited college in automotive mechanics, building utility maintenance or a natural science field and one (1) year of experience in a similar position as listed in the work functions.
OR
A combination of education and experience equivalent to three (3) years of experience in a similar position as listed in the work functions.
Regular and reliable attendance is a necessary component of job/position. Individuals required to use County vehicles and equipment must have a valid driver's license and be free of any major traffic violations for the last three (3) years.
Nature of Work
Under general supervision, assists with the maintenance of Graham Park equipment and facilities. Will be solely responsible for the safe operation of the Graham Park in the absence of the manager. Performs weeknight and weekend call backs and performs snow removal as needed.
Examples of Work
- Mows grass, trims trees, maintains plantings, removes snow, and assists with the application of fertilizer and weed control to all Graham Park grounds.
- Operates, services, and repairs mechanical equipment such as push and riding mowers, pickups and larger trucks, loader tractors, and skid loaders.
- Operates and maintains various cleaning equipment and cleans washbowls & fixtures, sweeps and mops floors, empties waste receptacles, and sets up and takes down tables and chairs.
- Diagnoses, repairs, and maintains equipment; replaces defective or faulty parts. Fabricates and installs replacement parts and new equipment.
- Assists in the design and fabrication of specialty equipment and performs routine welding operations to repair equipment.
- Assists with construction and maintains Graham Park buildings performing interior and exterior repairs.
- Maintains equipment records, orders supplies, and maintains parts inventory.
- Oversees the work of seasonal employees and Sentenced to Serve personnel.
- Enforces Graham Park rules and answers questions from Graham Park users.
- Conducts tours of buildings for prospective renters and collects rental fees and damage deposits.
- Supports the Facilities & Building Operations department during emergency situations.
- Recommends capital equipment needs and equipment replacement schedules.
- Performs related duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
- Knowledge of automotive or heavy equipment mechanics and small engine repair.
- Knowledge of grounds keeping including knowledge of various fertilizers and weed control chemicals and their proper application.
- Knowledge of building maintenance including carpentry, plumbing, painting, and cement finishing.
- Knowledge of the work hazards and applicable safety precautions associated with the operation of assigned equipment.
- Knowledge of applicable traffic laws, ordinances and regulations involved in the operation of assigned equipment.
- Skill in the operation of both acetylene and electric welding equipment and welding techniques and materials.
- Skill in the use of hand and power tools.
- Skill in the use of computers and technology.
- Skill in the use of basic business math.
- Ability to operate tractor loaders, skid loaders and snow plowing equipment.
- Ability to make operating adjustments and recognize deficiencies in the field.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to work effectively with Graham Park users and other staff.
- Ability to enforce rules and regulations.
- Ability to train and oversee the work of others.
