Job Overview
This role is responsible for selecting stories for broadcast and for researching, writing, and assembling content for newscasts. The position also includes delivering both scripted and unscripted news reports live on television. The role will anchor the 5 p.m. newscast and report during the nightside shift.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop, research, and pitch original story ideas for broadcast and digital, turning complex topics into clear, compelling journalism.
  • Write, produce, and present live scripted and unscripted news reports from the studio, newsroom, and field across all platforms.
  • Anchor assigned newscasts, guiding editorial decisions and providing clear direction to producers, photographers, and newsroom staff.
  • Shoot, edit, and assemble video and visual elements under tight deadlines for newscasts, specials, and digital content.
  • Respond quickly to breaking news, gathering information on-scene, conducting interviews, and delivering timely updates.
  • Create and update content for the station website and social media, engaging audiences with frequent digital updates.
  • Build and maintain strong community connections to enhance storytelling and identify emerging news opportunities.
  • Complete other duties as requested and needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's in Communication, Speech, or related field with 2 years' experience as a news anchor; or a combination of education and experience to meet the requirements of the position.
  • Quick and effective decision-making, live ad-libbing, and maintaining performance under extreme pressure.
  • Highly developed public speaking and interpersonal skills, along with exceptional communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Professional, consistent on-air appearance and ability to read Teleprompter.
  • Advanced abilities in critical thinking.
  • Broad knowledge of local, national, and international affairs (e.g. political, economic, legislative, and cultural).
  • Comfortable yet professional presence on camera with the ability to improvise in a live on-camera setting.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Available to work on a flexible schedule.
  • Ability to work under stressful conditions and strict deadlines.
  • Maintain professional standards regarding wardrobe, hair, cosmetics, and grooming as required for the position. 
Additional Information
This position is subject to pre-employment driving record background check. A conviction, violation pending adjudication, or adverse driving record more than 3 years old or does not meet the major violation definition per company policy will not, on its own, disqualify an applicant. The company will use background check information in a confidential, non-discriminatory manner consistent with applicable federal, state and local law.

Compensation and Benefits
When extending an offer, the company considers a variety of factors such as (but not limited to) the candidate's work experience, education/training & key skills as well as internal peer equity and other market and business considerations.
The hourly rate of pay for this position is $24.00-25.50 per hour.
