About Us
IBM is a globally integrated technology and consulting company with operations in more than 171 countries. IBM’s greatest asset is the IBMer where strength lies in their diversity and talent to drive progress through meaningful innovation and action. IBMers believe in progress—that the application of intelligence, reason and science can improve business, society, and the human condition.
Innovation is at the core of IBM's strategy. The company develops and sells software and systems hardware and a broad range of infrastructure, cloud, AI (artificial intelligence), and consulting services. IBM is also a major research organization, holding the record for most annual U.S. patents generated by a business (as of 2020) for 28 consecutive years.
In the late 1950s, IBM opened a development and manufacturing location in Rochester. During the past seven decades, IBMers in Rochester have played strategic roles in the development of systems hardware, firmware, and software including IBM’s Cognitive (Power) Systems. Rochester IBMers are also key contributors to the development and delivery of some of the world’s fastest supercomputers, chip development, Quantum computing, and IBM’s Cloud strategy. The IBM Patent Center at Rochester is one of four IBM U.S. Intellectual Property Law Centers working closely with the IBM inventor community in Minnesota, as well as innovators around the globe. Rochester is also home to the single largest employee population for IBM Finance & Operations in the U.S.
