A Day in the Life at Custom Alarm
The Vice President of Sales and Design is responsible for the daily activities of the Sales and Design Department and providing support which promotes continued growth and achievement of the company’s overall sales objectives. Plans, organizes and implements sales programs. Lead by example and support the Core Values of the company through all interactions.
Reports to: Chief Operating Office (CEO)
Hours: 7:00am – 5:00pm (can fluctuate as a salary position)
Location: Rochester, Minnesota
Company Size: 70 employees
Pay: $105,000 - $130,000 per year (bonus opportunities included) + opportunity for profit sharing (starting wage is determined based on a number of considerations including education, certifications, related experience, etc.)
The Main Responsibilities
Customer Growth & Strategy
- Drive new and existing customer growth through strategic sales initiatives, add-ons, upgrades, and takeovers.
- Monitor market trends to develop competitive offerings and long-term go-to-market plans.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with industry partners and professional networks.
- Lead, coach, and develop sales and design staff to achieve performance and revenue goals.
- Set KPIs and sales targets; conduct regular performance reviews and coaching.
- Coordinate hiring, onboarding, and ongoing training in partnership with HR and L&D.
- Foster cross-department collaboration to support customer satisfaction and issue resolution.
- Ensure effective use and compliance with internal sales and design systems.
- Partner with Finance and Leadership on budgets, forecasting, reporting, and margin management.
- Track sales performance metrics and review job profitability and revenue impact.
- Oversee pricing, commissions, and policies; recommend improvements as needed.
- Collaborate with Marketing to support new product launches and initiatives.
- Participate in leadership meetings, industry events, and ongoing professional training.

Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
Audio, visual, and verbal functions are vital aspects to performing this position. A majority of time is spent sitting, standing, and walking. Some lifting may be necessary. Weights of objects rarely exceed 25 pounds. Movements such as stooping and kneeling are sometimes required. Driving and traveling are required
Working Conditions
- Requires working in all environmental conditions (both indoors and outdoors) with some exposure to dust, insulation, noise, and heat or cold (MN weather)
- After hours work, out-of-town trips, or overnights are sometimes necessary
Other Requirements
Regular and reliable attendance is required. Evening and weekend appointments for networking or marketing events to support the sales team and company are expected to attend as necessary. A person in this position must have a valid driver’s license and must be insured.
