Minimum Qualifications of Education and Experience
$36.48 - $60.94 HourlyBachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a Civil Engineering discipline or similar field. |
Regular and reliable attendance is a necessary component of job/position. Individuals required to use County vehicles and equipment must have a valid driver’s license and be free of any major traffic violations for the last three (3) years.
Required Special Qualifications:
Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate is required within six (6) months of employment.
Nature of Work
Under general supervision, assisting in the development, coordination, and design of transportation projects. Supports engineering studies, prepares specifications and reports. Represents the County's interests for the timely planning, estimating, budgeting, design, and construction of transportation projects. Participates in meetings outside of regular business hours with public officials, agencies, contractors, property owners, and consultants. Supports a diverse, respectful, and inclusive workplace.
Examples of Work
- Assists with developing, designing, and reviewing proposed layouts and plans for construction of transportation infrastructure. Prepares project development reports and supports environmental studies and documents.
- Participates in the investigation, development, design and construction of transportation projects.
- Collaborates with construction, maintenance, surveying, parks, Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD), and Right of Way staff.
- Reviews the accuracy of all plans in compliance with County, State and Federal design standards, practices and policies and makes recommendations. Prepares specifications and cost estimates. Coordinates with local, state and federal agencies and utility companies to obtain required approvals, permits, and agreements.
- Participates in the development of budgets and the capital improvement program.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
- Knowledge of transportation and engineering principles and practices and their application in the design, construction and maintenance of transportation infrastructure.
- Knowledge of land and engineering survey methods and techniques.
- Knowledge of current developments and literature in the field of civil engineering.
- Skill in the use of computers and technology, including land and engineering design and survey systems.
- Skill in making complex engineering computations.
- Ability to design and oversee the construction of transportation infrastructure.
- Ability to analyze and interpret construction plans and specifications.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, including presenting.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Ability to effectively organize and prioritize tasks.
